5 things in Menorca that your children will love

When visiting Menorca with your family, you need to have some plans in mind to keep the kids entertained. We’re sure that the beach and swimming will be one of favourite pastimes, but how about discovering Menorca as a family for a few days too?

Bini Hotels recommend 5 great plans which are bound to excite your kids and that you can share with them:

1. Take a boat ride around Mahón Harbour

Take your family out on a catamaran and enjoy the adventure of boating in the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean: it’s 5 km long! Start the trip from opposite the naval base and cruise to Cala San Esteban, passing Isla del Rey islet, Lazareto and the fortress La Mola. It’s a great way of seeing an amazing port, which was coveted by the British, Spaniards, French and other European countries.

 2. Visit the fishing village in Binibeca Vell

This is on the south coast, 4 km from the town of Sant Lluís. Your children will love discovering the labyrinth of narrow streets in this pretty fishing village with its whitewashed houses and green shutters, seeing all the overhanging arches and watching the boats in the little inlet.

3. Playing with animals at Lloc de Menorca

On the main road about 8 km from Mahón, you will find this well-tended zoo with a great variety of petting animals and picnic spots in the shaded woodland areas to enjoy time at. There are also monkeys, lemurs, titi and macaque monkeys, goats and ostriches…

4. Sample a delicious Menorcan breakfast

Menorca has a wonderful and varied range of cakes and pastries. From artisan ensaimada pastries with delicious fillings to simple pastissets, the island’s typical biscuits, there is something for all tastes. Visit one of the bakeries and try the crespells filled with sobrassada sausage or jam, the flaons, cheesecakes … your kids will be licking their lips!

5. Visit Fort Marlborough

Just 2 km from Es Castell, in the bay Cala San Esteban, you will find Fort de Marlborough. It was built by the British nearly 300 years ago. Visitors can enjoy watching a re-enactment of how the soldiers who guarded the mouth of Mahón Harbour lived in the underground tunnels and caves.  The children will love the cannons and, from above, there are fantastic views of the Mediterranean.
